Oxford House - Spears

Oxford House, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1975 by Paul Molloy, providing a nationwide network of over 3,500 self-run, self-supported, democratically governed recovery homes for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders. The Oxford House Model offers a community-based, supportive, and sober living environment where residents share responsibilities, pay equal expenses, and enforce a zero-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol, allowing members to stay indefinitely as long as they remain sober, non-disruptive, and contribute financially. Emphasizing recovery, responsibility, and replication, this evidence-based approach—recognized by SAMHSA and backed by DePaul University research showing 80% long-term sobriety rates, improved employment, and reduced incarceration—promotes peer support, leadership development, and self-efficacy for diverse populations including men, women with children, veterans, and those with co-occurring disorders. Oxford Houses, chartered by the nonprofit, operate autonomously yet connect through chapters and associations to expand access to affordable, effective housing that helps restore lives, instill hope, and support lasting sobriety.
