Oxford House - Supernova
Oxford House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1975 that provides peer-run, self-sustaining, substance-free housing through its innovative Oxford House Model, offering community-based, supportive, and sober living environments for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Originating when residents, including co-founder Paul Molloy, took over a closing halfway house in Silver Spring, Maryland, and established democratic self-governance, the model emphasizes recovery, responsibility, and replication, with no house managers or time limits—members can stay as long as they remain sober, pay their equal share of expenses, and are not disruptive. Over 3,500 Oxford Houses across 47 states and internationally house more than 24,000 residents at any time, serving men and women in gender-specific homes, including special populations like women with children, veterans, and those with co-occurring disorders, while promoting active participation in AA/NA for long-term sobriety. Backed by extensive research from DePaul University and recognized by SAMHSA as an evidence-based practice, Oxford House achieves unmatched success rates, with studies showing 80% of residents maintaining sobriety long-term, reduced substance use, lower incarceration, and improved employment outcomes compared to usual care.
