Amethyst House - Women's House
322 West 2nd Street, Bloomington, IN 47401
Amethyst House, Inc., is a Bloomington, IN based not-for-profit United Way agency founded in August of 1980 as "Ray of Love" by concerned recovering community members to provide safe housing for individuals beginning recovery from alcohol and other drugs, renamed in 1989, with outpatient services added in 2000 in Bloomington and 2001 in Evansville (now through Counseling for Change). It provides a foundation for recovery by partnering with individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance-use disorders, offering high-quality residential and outpatient treatment services and guidance for healthy living, with a vision to promote a world where recovery services are accessible to all, the stigma of addiction is eliminated, and life-long recovery is a reality. The organization operates two ASAM 3.1 sub-acute residential treatment facilities serving men (17 beds) and women (14 beds, with dependent children up to age 6 on a case-by-case basis) ages 18 and over with chemical dependency, requiring residents to secure employment, attend outpatient treatment, participate in AA/NA, and receive weekly case management and life skills training, with preferential admission for pregnant women and IV drug users. Outpatient services include assessments using ASAM criteria, intensive outpatient programs, individual/group/family therapy, case management, and support for co-occurring disorders utilizing evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and trauma-informed care in small groups of 8-10. Amethyst House conducts its business with a client-focused, inclusive atmosphere, respecting addiction as a disease, ensuring full accessibility, accepting challenging cases, emphasizing personal accountability, continuous improvement, and prioritizing hope and compassion, while embracing diversity to enhance services for all clients regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or identity.
