Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., a not-for-profit community mental health center established in 1971, proudly serves the behavioral health needs of individuals and families across Gibson, Posey, Warrick, and Vanderburgh counties in Southwestern Indiana, with 15 locations and over 9,100 clients annually supported by more than 300 dedicated employees. As one of 24 community mental health centers in Indiana, Southwestern has evolved from its roots in community-based care—pioneered by advocates inspired by President Kennedy's vision—to become a comprehensive behavioral healthcare system offering a wide range of evidence-based services, including acute psychiatric care, 24-hour crisis intervention, outpatient and residential addiction treatment through programs like Stepping Stone and Stepping Forward for pregnant women, child and family therapy, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), supervised group living, medication management, school-based services, older adult support, and employee assistance programs. Guided by its mission to partner in providing compassionate care and improve wellness, with a vision of Improving Lives Together, and core values of community, excellence, and integrity, Southwestern emphasizes prevention, education, and outreach to reduce stigma, empower recovery, and foster holistic wellness for those facing mental illnesses, substance use disorders, co-occurring conditions, and life challenges, ensuring accessible, person-centered treatment that treats the whole person in a supportive, community-integrated environment.
