Better Roads Recovery Ministry, a ministry of First Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana, has been a haven of recovery for men and women from many states and foreign countries since 1963, formerly the Hammond City Rescue Mission. The organization serves to help individuals conquer their addictions, develop a wholesome relationship with God, secure long-term employment, establish financial responsibility, maintain a character level in tune with the Bible, and ensure success with their families, with preaching that honors Christ at its heartbeat. Through a Christ-centered approach, Better Roads utilizes a tried and proven full curriculum where seventy-five percent of graduates who continue to follow its principles never return to addiction. The addiction program has helped thousands in their fight against substance abuse, alcohol, overeating, gambling, sexual misconduct, cigarettes, anger, and other destructive activities. Spiritual growth is promoted in a structured, family atmosphere, featuring daily life-skill training services in chapel where biblical principles are taught for permanent and total recovery, along with Friday night addiction programs open to the public. The ministry offers separate residential facilities for men (56-bed) and ladies (10-bed), providing a six-month structured program consisting of counseling, mentoring, life-skills training, personalized discipleship, and Reformers Unanimous curriculum to restore faith, renew hope, redevelop character and discipline, and rebuild broken relationships.
