Community Rehabilitation Hospital North is a state-of-the-art, 60-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation hospital dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals who have experienced the debilitating effects of a severe injury or illness.

Our rehabilitation programs provide ongoing care and specialized treatment to patients throughout their recovery journey, offering customized, individualized rehabilitation tailored to the specific needs of those recovering from a stroke, brain injury, neurological conditions, trauma, spinal cord injury, amputation, and orthopedic injury.

We strive to maximize the health, function, and quality of life of those we serve through comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation programs, involving a multidisciplinary team including physicians trained in rehabilitation, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, and case managers who deliver at least three hours of therapy five days a week.

Accredited by The Joint Commission and CARF for our Stroke, Amputation, Brain Injury, and Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs, we focus on helping patients achieve the best recovery possible, return home quickly, and regain independence in mobility, daily living skills, and community reintegration.

Treatment & Programs

Levels of Care

At Community Rehabilitation Hospital North, the focus is entirely on immersive, short-term inpatient rehabilitation designed to return patients home quickly. Residents typically participate in an intensive schedule, completing at least 15 hours of therapy each week alongside 24-hour nursing care. This residential acute care setting averages a 10- to 14-day length of stay to maximize functional independence.

Therapies

The clinical team delivers specialized physical, occupational, and speech therapy tailored to the complex needs of medical trauma survivors. Daily sessions integrate essential skills like progressive gait training, swallowing recovery, and safe transfer techniques.

Addictions

This intensive care center specializes exclusively in acute physical and neurological rehabilitation rather than substance use treatment. Individuals seeking care for primary addiction disorders should contact hospital admissions for appropriate local referrals in the Indianapolis area.

Conditions

While clinical care addresses the cognitive challenges of severe neurological injuries, the program is not a primary mental health center. Prospective patients dealing with distinct psychiatric conditions can reach out to the admissions team for local provider referrals.

Issues

Recovery here focuses on overcoming the life-altering impacts of complex medical trauma. The multidisciplinary staff works carefully with individuals navigating life after a severe stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or recent amputation. Care is explicitly directed at helping residents regain fundamental daily living skills and confidence after catastrophic physical events.

Programs

Treatment is heavily structured around deeply specialized rehabilitation tracks rather than generalized hospital care. The facility’s core offerings lie in their dedicated Stroke Specialty Program, Brain Injury Specialty Program, and Amputation Specialty Program. Medical directors trained specifically in rehabilitation oversee these distinct tracks to ensure clear recovery milestones are achieved.
