Deaconess Memorial Medical Center, formerly known as Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, is a non-profit regional health center serving residents of eight counties in southwestern Indiana since its opening on July 11, 1951. Founded through community efforts including donations from local businessmen, public fund drives, and support from the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, the facility was established to address a critical shortage of hospital beds in the area and has grown into a comprehensive medical center with over 1,600 caregivers and approximately 250 physicians and advanced practice providers on staff. Annually, it provides medical care for approximately 6,000 inpatients, 250,000 outpatients, 26,000 emergency patients, and 700 newborns, while emphasizing accessibility through financial assistance programs and transparent pricing to ensure care regardless of ability to pay.
