Regional Mental Health Center - Strawhun Center
Regional Health Systems is a non-profit organization committed to serving the needs of Northwest Indiana communities as both a community mental health center and a federally qualified health center, providing affordable, high-quality care to all people regardless of age, income, or circumstance. With a history spanning 50 years, beginning as two community mental health centers offering outpatient behavioral health services in Hammond and Merrillville, it has evolved to include substance abuse and residential treatment, administrative consolidation into the Regional Mental Health Center, and the pioneering establishment of Indiana's first FQHC to address physical health disparities among mental health clients. The organization's mission is to enhance the health and well-being of individuals and their families by delivering community-based mental health care, primary health care, and addiction treatment services in a safe, supportive environment that treats the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Services encompass a wide range, including primary care for families, children, and seniors; dental care; psychiatry for inpatient, outpatient, and child needs; counseling and therapy for individuals, couples, and families; comprehensive addiction treatment through programs like Recovery Matters with residential, outpatient, and medication-assisted options; telehealth for mental health; crisis intervention via the 24/7 Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit and Mobile Integrated Response Systems; specialized veteran services; and support services such as case management, peer support, rehabilitative services, and pharmacy access. Regional Health Systems partners with families, veterans, the underserved, and the broader community to foster long-term recovery, community safety, and whole-person health through coordinated, compassionate, and accessible care.
