Volunteers of America - Fresh Start Recovery Center at Winchester House
Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana is a ministry of service dedicated to helping people reach their full potential through human services programs that offer hope, restore dignity, and transform lives. As an affiliate of the national, faith-based nonprofit founded in 1896 by Ballington and Maud Booth, VOA Ohio & Indiana has a rich history of addressing community needs, from early halfway houses for released prisoners to modern evidence-based initiatives serving nearly 11,000 people across 65 locations in 16 communities in Ohio and Indiana. Guided by core values of Respect & Trust, Integrity, Ministry of Service, and Creativity & Innovation, the organization provides trauma-informed, comprehensive care that combines physical and behavioral health services to treat the whole person. Key services include family-focused recovery programs like Fresh Start Recovery Center for pregnant women and mothers with substance use disorders, men's residential treatment for those in the criminal justice system, outpatient mental health and addiction treatment, supportive housing for veterans and homeless individuals, criminal justice reentry programs with job training and counseling, and youth and family interventions for prevention and crisis support. Targeting vulnerable populations such as veterans facing homelessness or suicide risk, ex-offenders seeking reintegration, families in housing crises, and individuals with mental illness or disabilities, VOA Ohio & Indiana employs innovative, community-based approaches accredited by CARF to promote self-sufficiency, family reunification, and long-term stability, ensuring that recovery and well-being are possible for every person, family, and community.
