Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., established in 1971 as one of Indiana's 24 community mental health centers, proudly serves the mental health and substance use needs of individuals and families across Gibson, Posey, Warrick, and Vanderburgh counties in Southwestern Indiana, with 15 locations supporting over 9,100 clients annually. As a not-for-profit organization rooted in community-based care, Southwestern has evolved from early mergers of local providers into a comprehensive behavioral healthcare system, emphasizing prevention, education, and stigma reduction through evidence-based, person-centered approaches that integrate physical and behavioral health to treat the whole person. Guided by the mission to partner in providing compassionate care and improving wellness, and the vision of Improving Lives Together upheld by core values of community, excellence, and integrity, Southwestern offers a wide array of services including 24/7 crisis intervention and emergency evaluations, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) for severe mental illnesses, supervised group living for skill-building toward independence, residential programs like Stepping Stone for high-intensity substance use treatment (ASAM 3.5) serving men and women for 3-4 weeks with therapy, case management, and peer support, and Stepping Forward, a transitional low-intensity program (ASAM 3.1) prioritizing pregnant women and new mothers for up to 6-12 months to foster recovery and family stability. Additional offerings encompass outpatient programs such as Matrix intensive groups for relapse prevention, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, individual and family therapy, medication-assisted treatment by psychiatric nurse practitioners, AcuDetox for cravings reduction, community-based therapy to address barriers like socioeconomic challenges, school-based services to support youth mental health and prevent substance use, high-fidelity wraparound for families with complex needs, nursing services for vital screenings and medication management, telehealth options, tobacco recovery using the 5A model, employee assistance programs, and specialized supports like jail-based competency restoration and state hospital gatekeeping for seamless transitions. Targeting underserved populations including children, adolescents, adults with co-occurring disorders, older adults, justice-involved individuals, and pregnant women, Southwestern's dedicated multidisciplinary team of over 300 professionals, including board-certified psychiatrists and licensed clinicians, empowers clients to overcome challenges, build resilience, and thrive in their communities through collaborative, holistic care that honors family involvement, cultural sensitivity, and long-term recovery.
