Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana is an affiliate of Volunteers of America, a national nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to helping people rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.

As one of the largest affiliates, we strategically design and locally deliver evidence-based programs to our communities’ most pressing needs.

Our mission is to offer hope, restore dignity, and transform lives to help people reach their full potential, guided by our vision of a world where all people live in safety, with social, emotional and physical well-being, spiritual fulfillment, justice, and hope.

Upholding core values of Respect & Trust, Integrity, Ministry of Service, and Creativity & Innovation, we serve nearly 11,000 people annually through 65 program locations in 16 communities across Ohio and Indiana.

Our work focuses on veterans facing unique transition challenges with housing, employment, job training, and emotional support; individuals and families struggling with mental health and substance use disorders through comprehensive residential and outpatient treatment, including trauma-informed care and medication-assisted treatment; ex-offenders seeking fresh starts via re-entry programs with job training, counseling, and work-release; and homeless individuals and families by providing shelters, emergency housing, transitional and permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing, and senior independent living to foster stability and self-sufficiency.

We also support youth and families with prevention, early intervention, crisis response, and long-term services like Operation Backpack® for school supplies and Welcome Home Kits, emphasizing a ministry of service that addresses urgent and ongoing needs to promote self-reliance and community health.

Treatment & Programs

Levels of Care

The continuum of care at Volunteers of America - Veterans Resource Center is designed to meet individuals exactly where they are. Their programming spans from residential inpatient stays to intensive outpatient therapy and sober living environments. This step-down approach ensures each client receives the right level of transitional and aftercare support.

Therapies

Clinicians utilize a trauma-informed framework to deliver evidence-based modalities like motivational interviewing and targeted relapse prevention. Treatment seamlessly integrates medication-assisted treatment alongside individual counseling and dynamic group therapy. Their peer support model, led by individuals with shared lived military experience, serves as a cornerstone for resilience.

Addictions

As an active ministry of service, the clinical team provides compassionate care for individuals battling serious substance use disorders. They are equipped to support those navigating opioid dependence and severe alcohol addictions. Treatment is structured to help clients entirely rebuild their lives and achieve lasting recovery.

Conditions

Recognizing the profound impact of intense emotional trauma, the clinical staff addresses severe mental health conditions. They specialize in trauma-informed care for those navigating PTSD and clinical depression. The team deeply understands the unique psychological toll of transitioning back to civilian life.

Issues

Beyond clinical diagnoses, the program explicitly targets complex life challenges that frequently derail a successful recovery. Case managers offer a dedicated hand up for individuals facing profound housing insecurity or chronic unemployment. They also help clients navigate legal problems, family conflict, and the hurdles of re-entering society after incarceration.

Programs

Guiding their clinical philosophy is a profound belief in restoring dignity, illustrated through the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Program. Volunteers of America - Veterans Resource Center operates its local housing under a clear Housing First model. Veterans are not required to commit to initial sobriety, but instead work toward a lifestyle conducive to stable housing.
