Volunteers of America - Veteran Housing & Supportive Services
Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana is a faith-based, non-profit ministry of service with a rich history dating back to 1896, dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. As part of a national organization serving nearly 1.3 million people annually, the Ohio and Indiana affiliate employs nearly 1,000 professionals across 65 program locations in 16 communities, impacting over 11,000 individuals through innovative, evidence-based human services that emphasize respect, trust, integrity, and creativity. Guided by a philosophy of compassion and community transformation, the organization focuses on fostering healthy communities by addressing core needs in health, housing, and human services, providing trauma-informed care that integrates physical and behavioral health to treat the whole person. Key services include comprehensive behavioral health and recovery programs, such as family-focused residential treatment at Fresh Start Recovery Centers for pregnant women and mothers with substance use disorders, men's recovery services for those in the criminal justice system, and outpatient treatment centers offering medication-assisted therapy, counseling, and aftercare; veteran-specific initiatives like the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Program, Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), transitional housing such as the Cleveland Domiciliary and Richard Lugar Safe Haven, and employment support through Veterans Resource Centers; criminal justice re-entry programs providing case management, job training, and counseling to ex-offenders; permanent supportive and rapid re-housing to end homelessness; and youth and family programs including Operation Backpack for school supplies and Welcome Home Kits for transitioning families. Primarily serving vulnerable populations—including veterans facing unemployment and mental health challenges, homeless individuals and families, low-income seniors, persons with disabilities, women and children in recovery, and justice-involved individuals—the organization employs a holistic, community-based approach that promotes long-term stability, family reunification, and self-sufficiency, all while maintaining CARF accreditation to ensure high-quality, accountable care.
