The Dunes House has been serving Northwest Indiana since 1972 as a Halfway House for men suffering from the relentless grip of addiction.
With ten beds available on a first come, first serve basis, the facility re-introduces residents to the responsibilities of life through structure, accountability, and positive reinforcement.
The Dunes House Education and Resident Committees meet weekly with residents to help them realize and achieve new perspectives, while the Entertainment Committee organizes social functions to foster community among those in recovery.
Uniquely, it serves as home for over 50% of the AA meetings in Michigan City, immersing residents in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and providing access to Narcotics Anonymous meetings on site.
The mission of the House is to help further the goals set out by the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, actively contributing to a convenient and pleasant place to continue the fellowship in A.A., where the primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
What we treat
Treatment & Programs
Levels of Care
Operating as a dedicated halfway house, Dunes Fellowship House provides structured sober living for men in Northwest Indiana. With just ten beds available on a first-come, first-served basis, the facility re-introduces residents to the responsibilities of daily life through accountability and positive reinforcement.
Therapies
Please contact the staff directly for more information regarding specific clinical partnerships or outside therapeutic offerings. The overarching focus here remains on peer-led fellowship and profound 12-step immersion rather than formal psychological or behavioral therapy.
Addictions
The home is built specifically to help men step away from the relentless grip of alcoholism and active drug addiction. Because of its heavy immersion in the 12-step model, both Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings are deeply integrated into the daily routine.
Conditions
Dunes Fellowship House focuses entirely on substance use disorders and chronic alcoholism. Rather than providing clinical mental health treatment, the program helps individuals reshape their behaviors through structure, accountability, and the guiding principles of the AA preamble.
Issues
Rebuilding a life after addiction often requires creating an entirely new, sober social network. To support this critical community building, an internal Entertainment Committee actively organizes social functions that foster deep friendships among those navigating early recovery together.
Programs
The central track at Dunes Fellowship House is rooted entirely in extended care and traditional 12-step philosophy. By adhering to the exact goals set out by the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, residents are surrounded by the fellowship required to maintain long-term recovery and build a lasting bridge back to independence.
On-site
Amenities
The Michigan City property operates as an intimate, 10-bed shared home designed to function as a true safe haven for its residents. A defining element of the space is its meeting capacity, which accommodates over half of all the AA meetings held in the surrounding city.
Coverage
Payment
For current details regarding monthly rent, intake fees, or self-pay rates for the 10-bed home, please contact the house leadership. Because it operates within a peer-led structure rather than a medical framework, traditional private health insurance is typically not utilized for boarding costs.
Please contact the facility directly to verify insurance coverage and payment options. Many facilities offer free insurance verification.

Who We Serve
Since 1972, this organization has exclusively served adult men seeking a highly structured path out of active drinking and substance use. While their onsite resources and public meetings are a cornerstone for much of the local recovery community, the residential halfway house beds are dedicated solely to the men living on the property.
Genders Accepted
Additional Services
To support ongoing personal growth, Dunes Fellowship House features internal Education and Resident Committees that meet weekly with the men living in the home. These dedicated meetings are designed to help individuals gain new perspectives and achieve their goals as they transition back into daily life.
