Dove Recovery House for Women is Indiana’s leading provider of women-centered addiction treatment and recovery, serving as the largest recovery housing program for women in Marion and Dubois counties and certified as a Level IV Recovery Residence through the Indiana Alliance for Recovery Residences.
Since opening its Marion County home in 2000 in Indianapolis, Dove House has empowered thousands of vulnerable women struggling with substance use disorder—many of whom have endured physical, emotional, and sexual abuse as well as homelessness—to become substance-free, self-sufficient, and healthy by providing free, safe, and sober residential housing, comprehensive trauma-informed programming, and hope for the future.
With locations in Indianapolis serving 40 women at a time, Jasper serving 15, and a third facility under construction in Bartholomew County set to open in 2026 serving another 15, Dove House annually supports over 100 women through an evidence-based approach that includes phased programming such as Stages of Change for self-discovery and coping skills, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for understanding addiction and building communication skills, and Seeking Safety for addressing trauma and PTSD, alongside services like peer recovery coaching, individual therapy, life skills training, relapse prevention, NA/HA/AA meetings, employment development, nutritious meals, family reunification, and optional faith-based activities.
Funded entirely by grants, corporate supporters, and individual donors at an average cost of $280 per week per client, Dove House fosters long-term sobriety in a supportive cohort environment where nearly 80% of residents successfully complete programming or stay on track, transforming lives by meeting women where they are and guiding them back to themselves.
What we treat
Treatment & Programs
Levels of Care
The treatment journey at Dove Recovery House for Women- Dubois County is structured as a phased, long-term residential experience. Women commit to a minimum 90-day stay in a safe inpatient and sober living environment, often remaining up to two years as they progress smoothly back into the community. Moving together in peer cohorts, residents transition from foundational self-discovery into structured intensive outpatient programming designed to build lasting coping skills.
Therapies
Therapeutic work is broken into targeted phases, beginning with "Stages of Change," where clients use art therapy, journaling, and self-reflection to rediscover their identities. In later phases, clinicians implement the evidence-based "Seeking Safety" curriculum to specifically address trauma resolution and relational needs. Alongside individual therapy and relapse prevention planning, clients learn to self-regulate and practice essential life skills within a highly supportive setting.
Addictions
Residents find a safe haven to heal from severe substance use disorders, including devastating struggles with alcohol and heroin. The facility hosts on-site 12-Step fellowships explicitly tailored for these challenges, including weekly Heroin Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. By exploring the biological changes addiction causes in the brain, women are empowered to move past impulsive behaviors and sustain their sobriety.
Conditions
Because more than 95 percent of the women seeking care here have experienced deep trauma, the clinical team heavily prioritizes treating post-traumatic stress alongside substance use disorder. Staff utilize targeted groups to explore how adverse childhood experiences and physical or sexual abuse fuel addiction. Recognizing these underlying conditions helps individuals reconstruct their narratives and realize they are not defective, but rather reacting to profound emotional wounds.
Issues
Many who walk through these doors have nowhere else to turn, arriving with histories of severe homelessness, housing insecurity, and profound physical or sexual abuse. The program systematically addresses these layers of hardship, offering critical family reunification services and parenting classes to help mend fractured relationships. By meeting individuals exactly where they are, the staff provides a stabilizing foundation for those who have lost their sense of self to systemic stressors.
Programs
Built on a dynamic recovery community model, the curriculum groups participants into close-knit cohorts that navigate the recovery timeline together. This strictly abstinence-oriented, 12-Step informed approach integrates on-site, women-only fellowship meetings with optional faith-based activities. Because the organization believes holistic healing should be accessible, this comprehensive residential track is entirely grant-funded to remove the immense financial burden of treatment.
