Oxford House - Chance II
842 N. Temple Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46201
Oxford House, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 1975, dedicated to providing self-run, self-supported homes for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders.
The Oxford House Model offers a community-based, supportive, and sober living environment where residents democratically elect officers, share responsibilities and expenses, and maintain 100% drug and alcohol-free living.
There are over 3,500 Oxford Houses across the United States, housing more than 24,000 individuals at any time, with no time limits on residency as long as members remain sober, non-disruptive, and pay their equal share.
This evidence-based approach, backed by extensive research, emphasizes personal responsibility, peer support, and integration with programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous to foster long-term recovery, reduced relapse rates, improved employment, and lower incarceration.
Oxford House, Inc. provides charters, technical assistance, and resources to expand the model, serving diverse populations including veterans, women with children, and those with co-occurring mental health issues through gender-specific residences.
What we treat
Treatment & Programs
Levels of Care
As a long-term sober living environment, Oxford House - Chance II acts as a bridge between primary treatment and full independence. There are no arbitrary time limits here; members can seamlessly transition into aftercare support and stay for as long as they need. Residents maintain their housing provided they remain completely sober and contribute their fair share.
Therapies
Since this is a self-run home rather than a clinical center, members do not receive formal therapies directly on site. Instead, recovery progress is anchored in personal accountability and regular participation in public meetings like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
Addictions
The environment is specifically meant for those recovering from drug addiction and alcoholism. To protect the progress of the entire household, members must adhere to an absolute rule of remaining completely drug and alcohol-free at all times.
Conditions
While Oxford House - Chance II primarily focuses on helping people overcome severe substance use disorders, the structured environment often brings unexpected stability to daily life. By relying on simple chores and strong peer connection, members find a healthy routine that makes long-term abstinence possible.
Issues
The shared responsibilities of the house directly combat the wreckage left by active addiction, including job loss, housing insecurity, and periods of incarceration. By helping each other secure work and pay equal bills, members actively overcome chronic relapse and build a reliable sober social network.
Programs
Founded on an evidence-based, peer-led recovery community model, the residence operates purely on democratic votes without an outside manager. This abstinence-oriented approach requires an ongoing commitment to the house rules, 12-step informed habits, and a willingness to step up as an elected house officer.
On-site
Amenities
Life inside an Oxford House feels like a typical shared residence, complete with comfortable spaces to watch cable or satellite TV together in the evenings. Members usually sleep in shared rooms, which discourages isolation and helps newcomers quickly feel like part of the family.
Coverage
Payment
Financial self-support is vital to the recovery philosophy, meaning members use self-payment methods rather than insurance. Every resident contributes an Equal Expense Share that covers rent, utilities, and daily household staples.
Please contact the facility directly to verify insurance coverage and payment options. Many facilities offer free insurance verification.
Eligibility
Who We Serve
Designed to serve adults fully committed to lasting change, the wider network includes specific chapters for men and women across the country. Individual households are strictly gender-specific, giving residents in the Indianapolis area a safe, focused environment to rebuild their lives.
Additional Services
The foundation of the entire model relies heavily on unbroken peer support from housemates who understand the journey. Members live in gender-separate housing, and those who eventually move out on good terms are strongly encouraged to join the alumni program as mentors.
