2205 Iroquois Trail, Lafayette, IN 47909

Oxford House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides self-run, self-supported recovery homes for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders, founded in 1975 when residents of a closing halfway house in Silver Spring, Maryland, took over the property to create a democratic, sober living environment.

With a mission rooted in 'Recovery.

Responsibility. Replication.,' Oxford House offers community-based, supportive, and alcohol- and drug-free residences across the United States and internationally, where members elect officers, share household responsibilities and expenses equally, and can stay indefinitely as long as they maintain sobriety, avoid disruptive behavior, and contribute financially.

The evidence-based Oxford House Model emphasizes peer support, long-term housing without time limits, and active participation in programs like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, achieving sobriety rates over 80% according to studies by DePaul University and recognition from SAMHSA.

Targeting recovering alcoholics, drug addicts, including those with co-occurring mental illnesses, veterans, women with children, and special populations like the deaf or Native Americans, Oxford Houses are gender-specific, democratically governed, and expand through chapters, associations, and technical assistance from Oxford House, Inc., fostering responsibility, self-efficacy, and relapse prevention while treating residents as a protected class under the Fair Housing Act.

Treatment & Programs

Levels of Care

Oxford House - Wabi Sabi operates within a time-tested model to provide a peer-run sober living environment. Serving as a crucial resource for aftercare support, residents can stay as long as they need. The only requirements are staying completely abstinent and paying an equal share of expenses.

Therapies

Because this is a non-clinical, peer-run home, the residence does not provide formal therapeutic or medical treatment. Residents instead rely on mutual support and shared responsibility to navigate their recovery journey.

Addictions

This Lafayette home focuses strictly on supporting those recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. In adherence to the organization's traditions, the environment is entirely abstinent. Any resident who returns to active substance use is immediately expelled to protect the household's sobriety.

While unaffiliated with outside organizations, the house is 12-step informed and encourages active participation in recovery fellowships.
